Now if you happen upon a Singer made 1911A1, then by god, you have a nice chunk of money there, as they are like hens teeth right now. I got mine shipped from out west to me for about a grand, which i still believe is a awesome deal, even if it is a Remington Rand, and typically the USGI ones go around $1200+ depending. I have also seen that geography plays a large part in pricing, which is where places like Gunbroker help folks out to locate guns, and also help folks get more money for there stuff ig they are in a lower priced area. I chose this route because i got a nice WW2 era gun that is correct and original, but since RR made the most pistols of all makers, they are more affordable, but still collectible. I went somewhere in the middle, and bought a original condition Remington Rand that is advertised, and appears to be all correct and original finish. They are only looking for correct original condition guns, regardless of finish quality, obviously the better quality finish the better price.įolks that are looking for shooters typically are looking for "mixmaster" guns that have swapped parts, and have been refinished, as they can shoot those and not worry about hurting a rare collectible. The value cannot be determined until you verify that all the parts internally are "correct" for your pistol, and the fact that it was "refinished" as opposed to "rearsenaled" does kill the value to true collectors. My information, just like everyone else's is worth exactly what you payed for it, but in my recent readings/shopping, i have determined this.
There is another site detailing true collectibles and their nuances, and it goes deeply into all things related to 1911's and 11 A1's but I can't find it right now. And usually no matter what the real market value may be form someone certified, there is always an 'expert' who 'knows someone who bought one exactly like yours for half that price!' Getting a price on something with potentially high value is like trying to sell a mint '63 split window Corvette on Gratiot versus taking it to Barrett-Jackson where the real money is.
It's amazing what real collectors can tell you about certain pistols. Most any other 'estimates' are worth exactly (or much less) than what you pay for them. Try to find a collector or appraiser, registered if possible.
